How to Start a Blog
You need your own self-hosted wordpress blog, because it gives you freedom and flexibility.
It’s the first step in starting a serious writing career.
It’s also inexpensive and easy to set up.
Down the road, you’ll learn more advanced ways to use your blog, e.g., plugins, but for today, you need to simply get started.
I use bluehost to host my blog. They have great prices for the quality of their services and they also make it easy to set up — you even get a free domain name along with your hosting package.
If you have enough money to afford a fast food meal, and you want to (finally) take the leap to starting your blog, keep reading.
How to Start a Blog – First Step
Click the link to bluehost and you’ll be taken here. You select get started and you’ll be taken to the next step in getting up your blog.
Next you’ll select a domain name. Or, if you already have one, you can transfer it to bluehost (If you choose this option, they’ll walk you through how to do it.)
Next they’ll ask you to add your account information. I chose the $14.95/month plan because I wanted more space, but the choice is yours.
You can choose extra features to keep your website secure. I use Site Back Up Pro.
Enter your card information.
Next you’ll be taken to the “c-panel,” which is basically the “dashboard,” for your hosting service.
Next, you’re going to install wordpress on your website.
After that you will select the domain name you picked or transferred to bluehost.
Then you’ll be taken to this page, which is the last step of the process.
After wordpress is installed, they’ll send you a confirmation email with your password.
After wordpress is installed, you’re all done!
You’ll want to select a theme for your wordpress site. WordPress comes with free themes you can use, but if you’re looking for something more unique and professional, consider a premium theme.

Here are some great places to find premium themes:
Each of these sites has guides to help you walk through customizing your theme.
Don’t fret over your theme too much, you can always change it.
After you choose a theme and get it set up the way you like — start writing.

I am an affiliate for bluehost, which means if you choose to purchase their services through my link, I receive a commission at absolutely no extra cost to you.
I care about my reputation and I only partner with products I believe in and use. I use bluehost for my own website and it’s worked out great.
If you decide to start your blog using my link, I’ll schedule a 30 minute Skype session or phone call for us to discuss anything writing related and help get your blog off to a great start.
After you purchase, send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll set up a time for us to talk asap.
Most people only dream about starting their blogs and working on their craft. I waited years before I started and I regret wasting all of that time.
If you want to become a real writer, you need a home for your writing.
Get started today and we’ll work together on the journey.
